Information about the chicken

Chickaleta

Chickaleta is one of Rainbow Road Farm’s original feathered residents and a proud Leghorn hen. Leghorns are famous for their snowy-white feathers, bright red combs, and for laying a remarkable number of pristine white eggs, often over 250 a year! Quick on their feet and full of personality, Leghorns are known for their intelligence, curiosity, and strong foraging instincts. Chickaleta fits the description perfectly. She’s a bit skittish around humans, preferring to rule the coop from a comfortable distance, but she’s all charm once you get to know her. Her absolute favorite treat is watermelon… there’s even a hilarious farm photo of her with her entire head buried inside one! Smart, spirited, and just a little sassy, Chickaleta reminds everyone that independence can be adorable.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon is Rainbow Road Farm’s newest feathered sweetheart and a Silkie…a breed unlike any other. Silkies are known for their soft, fur-like feathers that lack barbs, giving them a fluffy, plush appearance. They have five toes instead of the usual four, feathered legs, and striking black skin beneath their downy coats. These gentle birds are also celebrated for their calm temperaments, broodiness (they’re excellent mothers!), and their love for cuddles. Cinnamon embodies every Silkie trait, adorable, gentle, and endlessly curious. With her little afro crest and soft coos, she’s quickly stolen hearts around the farm. Though she’s still adjusting and often hides in the chicken igloo to dodge the pecking order drama, Cinnamon’s sweetness and charm make her an instant favorite to watch and hold.

Daisy

Daisy is a Starlight Green Egger—and the undeniable boss of the barnyard. These chickens are famous for their stunning green eggs and confident personalities, and Daisy takes both to new heights. Raised by hand from a tiny chick, she’s as bold as they come. If you step into her territory, expect to be greeted with an assertive cluck, a fierce little strut, and maybe even a playful peck to remind you who’s really in charge. Daisy doesn’t care if you’re 5’5” or 6’4”…she’ll still march right up, wings puffed, declaring, “I’m the boss of you!” beneath her breath. Though she’s spirited and a touch sassy, Daisy is deeply loved at Rainbow Road Farm for her confidence, loyalty, and big personality that keeps every day entertaining.

Dolly Parton

Dolly Parton is a proud Ameraucana hen… famous for her beautiful blue eggs and big personality. Ameraucanas are hardy, friendly chickens known for their distinctive beards and muffs, keen intelligence, excellent foraging skills, and calm but curious nature. They thrive in all kinds of weather and are some of the most consistent egg layers around. True to her namesake, Dolly has a little flair about her, with a buffed-out chest that commands attention and a confident cluck that keeps the flock on schedule. She loves a well-ordered routine and prefers when the farm hums like a well-oiled wheel. While she won’t fuss when picked up, Dolly Parton makes it clear she’s more of a “look, don’t touch” kind of diva, poised, practical, and unmistakably in charge of her own rhythm.

Giggles

Giggles might not live up to her name, but her grumpy charm makes her unforgettable. She’s a French Copper Maran, a breed prized for its rich, chocolate-brown eggs and elegant plumage. French Marans originated in the port town of Marans, France, and are known for their calm dispositions, striking feather colors, and feathered legs. Giggles, however, adds her own twist to the breed’s reputation. She has dark feathers with hints of green shimmer, setting her apart from her coop-mate Henrietta, who sports red highlights. Though she prefers her space and tends to waddle off when humans get too close, Giggles doesn’t mind being picked up on her own terms, especially if there’s food involved. Greedy for treats and gloriously grumpy, she’s proof that even the most serious hens can have plenty of personality.

Golden Belle (Goldie)

Golden Belle, affectionately called Goldie, is a Rhode Island Red, a classic American breed known for its deep auburn feathers, excellent egg-laying, and hardy nature. Rhode Island Reds are beloved for their dependable production of light-brown or tan eggs, calm temperaments, and ability to adapt to almost any climate. Goldie embodies every bit of that heritage. Hand-raised right here at Rainbow Road Farm, she’s gentle, affectionate, and happiest when snuggled close. Unlike some of her more dramatic coop-mates, Goldie doesn’t make much fuss… she’s a serene little presence, content to cluck softly and enjoy her day. With her kind eyes and warm personality, she’s the comforting heart of the flock, reminding everyone that quiet sweetness can be just as special as a bold crow.

Henrietta

Henrietta is Rainbow Road Farm’s regal French Copper Maran… easily recognized by the red highlights shimmering through her dark feathers. Though she’s often mistaken for her grumpy counterpart, Giggles, Henrietta is a bird all her own. She’s a confident “big mama” type who loves her meals and isn’t shy about bossing her way around the flock. French Copper Marans are famous for their deep, chocolate-colored eggs, among the darkest in the world, and Henrietta takes pride in laying some of the richest shades the farm has seen. When she first arrived, she refused to lay altogether, preferring to supervise instead. But once settled, she found her rhythm. Moody yet dependable, bold yet maternal, Henrietta brings a touch of French flair and plenty of attitude to the coop.

Nibbles

Nibbles was a Starlight Green Egger with a big personality and an even bigger heart. Raised by hand at Rainbow Road Farm, she grew into a playful, clever hen who loved attention almost as much as she loved pecking at shiny buttons and shoelaces. Nibbles looked much like her friend Golden Belle, but her spirited nature set her apart. Known for her curious nibbles (the name says it all!), she always kept the farmers smiling with her funny antics and mischievous charm. Though her time on the farm was cut short when she got her neck stuck in a fence, she remains dearly missed. Nibbles brought laughter, warmth, and joy to every day…. and her memory still flutters gently through the coop.

Pollyanna

Pollyanna reigns supreme as the undisputed Queen of Rainbow Road Farm. A Golden Sex-Link, she’s part of a hybrid breed prized for its excellent egg production, docile temperament (well—usually), and golden-red plumage that glows in the sunlight. These hens are dependable layers of tan to light-brown eggs, hardy in all seasons, and easy to identify by color at birth. But Pollyanna? She’s one of a kind. From the moment she arrived, she declared herself in charge… establishing the pecking order with swift precision and a few assertive pecks for good measure. Fast, fierce, and fabulously confident, she has no problem reminding farmers, visitors, or flockmates who’s boss. With her “I am the Queen” attitude and unshakable authority, Ms. Pollyanna doesn’t just rule the roost… she defines it.

Sir Fenwick Hennington

Sir Fenwick Hennington was the proud and gallant rooster of Rainbow Road Farm, a French Copper Maran of remarkable size and spirit. With his deep mahogany feathers and copper sheen, he was a sight to behold as he strutted through the yard, announcing each dawn with his triumphant crow. French Copper Marans are known for their calm strength and dark, rich eggs, but Sir Fenwick’s legacy was courage. Bold, brave, and ever watchful, he treated every hen as his own to guard. One night, he made the ultimate sacrifice, protecting his flock from a predator. Though his crow no longer echoes across the farm, his noble spirit lives on in every rustle of feathers and every sunrise that lights the coop. Sir Fenwick Hennington will forever be remembered as the heart and hero of the flock.
